Cardiotocography (CTG) is a test used to monitor your baby’s heartbeat and your uterine contractions. It’s a safe, non-invasive way for doctors to check on your baby’s well-being, especially in the later stages of pregnancy or during labour. The process involves placing two small round sensors on your tummy—one to track your baby’s heart rate and the other to measure any contractions in your womb.
CTG is important because it helps detect any signs of distress in your baby. For example, if the heart rate is too fast, too slow, or doesn’t respond well to contractions or movements, it may indicate that your baby isn’t getting enough oxygen. This early detection allows doctors to act quickly and make decisions that keep both you and your baby safe. CTG is especially useful if you have a high-risk pregnancy, experience reduced baby movements, or go past your due date.
The test itself is simple and usually takes around 20 to 40 minutes. You’ll be asked to lie down comfortably while the sensors are strapped to your abdomen. The results appear as graphs on a screen or printout, which the doctor will interpret to assess how your baby is coping. At Klinik Pakar Wanita Aymira, we offer CTG monitoring in a calm and caring environment, making sure you feel supported every step of the way.
